to know?

THE SHORT ANSWER

Is Tenerife ready
for electric?

Increasingly, yes. Modern EV range comfortably covers most daily island travel.

Distances are compact, destination charging is growing and regenerative braking suits Tenerife’s terrain. Infrastructure is still developing, chargers can be occupied or unavailable, and mountain routes require more planning.

Our goal is simple: make electric driving on the island easier to understand.

CHARGING / 01

Charging shouldn’t
be complicated.

01

Destination / AC

7–22 kWHotels · overnight · restaurants

Park, enjoy Tenerife and return with more charge.

02

Fast DC

50–100 kWLonger drives · lunch stops

A practical top-up, often 20–60 minutes depending on the car.

03

Ultra-fast DC

150–350 kWRapid route charging

Useful only when your vehicle can accept the available power.

Your car controls its maximum charging speed. A 300 kW charger does not mean every car will charge at 300 kW.

Important: availability, access and pricing change. Confirm live status in the operator app or map before relying on a charger.

For this route, start with a comfortable reserve and know your backup charger before leaving. Mountain elevation can materially increase consumption.

Actual consumption depends on vehicle, speed, climate control, wind, temperature, driving style and traffic.

Running low?
Here’s what to do.

  1. 01Reduce speed and unnecessary consumption.

FAQ / PRACTICAL ANSWERS

What drivers
ask first.

Is Tenerife suitable for an EV?+

Yes, for most visitors and residents. Island distances are compact, but mountain routes and charger availability reward a little planning.

Can I drive an EV to Teide?+

Yes. Start with a comfortable reserve, expect higher consumption uphill and identify a backup charger before setting off.

Does the battery recover downhill?+

Regenerative braking can return some energy on descents. The amount varies by vehicle, route, speed and conditions, so never treat it as guaranteed range.

How much does charging cost?+

Prices vary by operator, location, power and access. Check the operator’s current published tariff before starting a session.

What if a charger does not work?+

Try the operator instructions once, then move to your planned backup while you still have a safe battery reserve.

Can an EV be towed normally?+

Not always. EVs can have model-specific recovery requirements. Tell the operator the vehicle is electric and follow the manufacturer guidance.
